“Painting is like dreaming.”
A painter is someone who gets their hands dirty with colours, with the incandescent substance of dreams. Truth and beauty are not in things or in the world, but deep within us, in that hidden part that will never be known, yet must be set free.
Only in that shift do we find truth, beauty and the meaning of every act of exploration and representation.
I feel the need to dream what I remember. For me, this is what creating means. At that point, the pencil, the brush, the eyes… everything becomes secondary.
So I must break the rule, overturn habit and disappoint expectations. At the same time, I must make everything profoundly close, human and true. Only then does painting concern me, and only then does it have meaning for me. I would like to speak of the secrets of painting, the secrets of colours, and the possession and euphoria that accompany every act of creation, but I can only do so through my work.
Painting is obsession, possession, enchantment… it can also be called love.
Valeria Pontoglio was born in Romano di Lombardia, in the province of Bergamo, and lives and works in Bergamo, Italy.
She holds a diploma in fresco painting from the Paolo Toschi Art Institute in Parma and has exhibited in Italy, Europe and America since 1989.
