Giulia Regina Ranzanici

Since you often use print as a medium for the execution of your work, may I ask you which type you prefer?

I prefer the LUX-ART print in aluminum with a glossy finish, the colors are vivid and the finished work reveals its nature, it looks like an iPad screen, because I draw with my finger on the iPad! It’s very POP!

What comes first, the idea or the fascination with the material? In other words, does the artistic project come first, or is it inspired by the techniques and particular processes that have struck you?

I tend to squint, imagine something, start creating, then it morphs into something else, I find this surprising and this drives me to continue creating.

The more the unconscious speaks, the more aesthetics prevail.

I do everything on the fly, with passion, instinct and total freedom,

Freedom is fundamental, I experience creating as an extremely intimate moment, I feel like I’m totally detached from reality, the only conscious part is the desire to get as close as possible to what I’m imagining, but it happens that sometimes I move away and the drawing is distorted but it still manages to amaze me.

It is truly a profound experience!

Subsequently, based on the result, I begin to imagine the work in the context I consider most appropriate and consequently the choice falls on the material that I find most suited to the idea and the design.

Do you have any Masters you look up to and feel close to?

I believe that my artistic expression is a blend of my life in a family of aesthetics enthusiasts, I was surrounded by female portraits that I observed and imagined drawing by closing one eye and drawing lines in the air… then the Art High School… the influence of futuristic posters, the Belle Epoque, all the eras aimed at the future and beauty, feminine aesthetics and art, women over time, hairstyles, clothes, fabrics, Toulouse L, the history of costume…

feelings, experiences, travel are my greatest inspiration.

I have always been fascinated by cinematic shots, faces, gazes… I used to watch Hitchcock films with my maternal grandmother.

I studied fashion design, I love drawing women, clothes and shoes.

Elio Fiorucci was my first great teacher!

The connection between Art and Fashion is very strong in your production, it bursts forth without knocking.

An exquisitely Pop style that passes through the sensuality of Tom Wesselmann and the irony of Roy Lichtenstein but in which I also find the ease and rigor of Karl Lagerfeld’s preparatory drawings.

I’d like to know more about your personal “selection process,” that is, how you choose which works are best suited to be printed on fashion garments. Whether the pieces are conceived with this purpose in mind, or whether it all happens separately from the pure creative process.

Thanks for the artistic references you compared me to. It would be nice to think that they too could appreciate what I do…

At the European Institute of Design I studied fashion design, which gave me the opportunity to refine the technique of fashion sketches. The next challenge was to try to make them recognizable in style, but what I learned most was the ability to turn a thought or a feeling into creation.

My thesis was based on a personal diary from which I extracted key concepts and turned them into representation. I use this method in my works, seeking to emphasize aesthetics.

It all started with drawing. During the breastfeeding period, as I didn’t have time to paint, I tested a tablet app. I drew with my finger on my phone and on my iPad. This method gave me the opportunity to break down the lines of the figures and create a more essential construction of the woman.

I often draw on placemats at restaurants with my finger dipped in red wine.

If I multiply or mirror my drawings they become kaleidoscopes of women, this is how my fabrics are born.

Giulia Regina Ranzanici,

Aka “reginaqueen”, she spent her adolescence drawing women’s profiles with a black marker on the desks of the art high school…

He moved to Milan in 2000 to attend the European Institute of Design (IED) specializing in Fashion Design,

After graduating, she began her career in Elio Fiorucci’s style office, subsequently designing women’s shoes with very high heels for various brands… in 2010, after the birth of her daughter Regina, she began drawing women using   her fingers as a brush and the tablet as a canvas… from there the “touch drawings” were born.

She loves drawing, experimenting with different painting and printing techniques… from the drawing come works in aluminum, velvet canvases, murals, fabrics, clothes, bags…

In 2018 he married the love of his life with whom he shared a passion for art from school, they created works together and founded the street-wear brand “@ Kueen.it ” (wearing Art)

For her, drawing is a parallel world in which to escape limitations and express freedom!

Photography thus becomes a privileged means of expression, a medium capable of sacrificing reality for its hidden, probable and indecipherable, but no less revealing or evocative, sides.
